The West Plaza project has finally been completed! We are very excited about our three new food vendor locations and want to thank all of you for your understanding, support and good energy during these months of construction.

The Grand Opening for the West Plaza should be happening during the first two weeks of September—stay tuned for the date, time and program for the day. We hope you can all join us as we celebrate this wonderful addition to our building!

Carmelina La Petite and Bark N Bun will be moving into the two locations on either end. The middle location will remain empty while we search for a Soul Food vendor. We are currently going through a Request For Proposal (RFP) process for that location, and anticipate opening in Spring 2008. Please click here for more information about the Soul Food location.

Again, thank you very much for your patience and we look forward to seeing you in our new West Plaza.

Though the fence in the West Plaza has been taken down, several steps are still scheduled to take place prior to the projects new completion date of July 11, 2007.
Over the next few weeks, work on the roof will be performed, in order to prepare the roof for the installation of the new HVAC units. Aside from one day when a crane will be brought in to lift the units up to the roof (currently planned for the last week of June), all other work should have minimal impact on the ground traffic.
As always direct all your questions to Edina at x 86441. Thank you.

As the contractor approaches its final touches to our West Plaza project, we wanted to let you know that we anticipate having the fence removed and the Plaza cleaned in time for Commencement Ceremonies Saturday May 26, 2007.

Until then, final work that is taking place consists of - interior and exterior painting, erection of the glass canopy, mounting of HVAC units for the three locations as well as the installation of the hood for the B location.

The work in the West Plaza is moving along quite fast in the last few weeks. Scheduled over the next few days will be the tiling of the floors in all the locations, and the finishing of the HVAC system for the locations. On Thursday 4/5 and Friday 4/6 the West Plaza will not be accessible to foot traffic as the contractor prepares for the concrete ground work for the entire Plaza area. This will be the preparation for the majority of work scheduled to be performed during the week of the Spring Break. We will keep you informed as this process moves. Once again, thank you for your understanding. West Plaza completion date still remains at April 29, 2007.

Over the next two weeks, JME Construction will be performing the following work: begin application of the exterior stucco, applying drywall to the interior, and finally setting the exterior doors and frames. Installation of sprinklers and Fire Safety systems for all three locations will begin immediately following. As I am sure you have noticed, the locations are beginning to take shape and the project is moving right on schedule! We really appreciate everyone's support and understanding throughout this project and are anxious to bring the campus wonderful new space and services!

The work in the West Plaza is moving along fast! The contractor will be spending the next few days working on the exterior walls of our future three restaurant locations. Aside from that you may be noticing three window-like structures directly above the new locations. Those will be the Student Centers' three brand new future mural locations. We really appreciate all of your support and understanding as we move this great poject along.

Please be advised that we have been notified by the West Plaza Contractor that they will begin the process of the roof installation in the alcove spaces tomorrow, February 15, 2006 and continue through Monday, February 19, 2007. This process may produce noticeable odors. Though the chemical used in this process is non toxic and not harmful, should you be interested in viewing the MSD sheet for this product do not hesitate to contact me at 415-338-6441, or edinab@sfsu.edu.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Since the application is taking place outdoors, we predict the impact to the interior of the building to be negligible. Please note that this is the first of a three-phase application. We will provide similar notice once second and third applications get scheduled. Thank you for your cooperation.

The West Plaza project is well under way. You may have noticed another project in close proximity to the West Plaza. SF State is repairing the walkways from the Creative Arts building all the way to the West Plaza entrance. Trucks and the new barriers in these areas are a part of that project, as the university is trying to move fast and finish prior to the start of the spring 2007 semester. This project is having an impact on the West Plaza work, but we have been very successfully coordinating with the university counterparts to make the process smooth and seemeless for everyone involved. If you have any questions regarding the other project, please let us know, so we can forward it to the appropriate parties. Thank you!

Update for the rest of the calendar year, contractor is preparing to begin the structural steel work the week of December 18. Minimal noise is anticipated, and the contractor is aware that it is finals week. Minimal steel cutting and welding work to be performed. Next update will be in the New Year. Good luck with your finals and Happy Holidays everyone!

Friday, December 1, 2006.
The two week outlook for the West Plaza is as follows: The contractor is preparing for concrete pouring in the areas of the new alcoves and the installation of the concrete slab. The structural steel fabrication process should take place within a week's time, keeping the current construction on schedule. We anticipate very little noise from this point forward and thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation thus far. The pathway to the West Plaza over the next few weeks should remain fairly consistant. We will post any changes as they are communicated by the contractor. Please feel free to contact Edina at (415) 338- 6441 with any comments. Thank you.

Monday, November 20, 2006
West Plaza has now been completely closed off until the week of November 27 in order to allow for excavation work to provide for new plumbing lines along the Plaza. Please use the detour signs prompting the use of the North entrance (Bookstore) or the South Plaza.

Wednesday, November 15, 2006
The West Plaza project is at a stage where the heaviest portion of the concrete removal has begun to take place. To provide maximum safety during the excavation of the areas closest to the entrance doors to the Student Center, the pathway was redirected yesterday, encouraging students to use the Gold Coast Grill double doors when entering the building from the West end. For individuals trying to exit the building from the Lobby area, we encourage you to use the Bookstore entrance / exit, as well as that of the Gold Coast Grill. We expect the current pathway to remain closed for the next few weeks. We will update you of any changes as soon as they are available.

Friday, November 3, 2006
Construction will begin on the West Plaza (back of Student Center, facing Burk Hall) on Friday, November 3. This may conflict with your usual route to classes, and may result in an inability to cut through the Student Center. The contractor will begin the preparation work for the demolition portion of the north side of the West Plaza, and the setting up of barricades to assist with traffic. Please be aware of any detour and construction signs.

Wednesday, November 1, 2006
This serves to inform you that Friday, November 3, 2006  the Contractor performing the West Plaza work will begin to put up the fence surrounding the construction area.

Beginning Monday, November 6, through Friday November 17, 2006, the noise levels at the Student Center will be elevated between the hours of 7am and 6pm. This is to allow for the demolition of the current alcoves and preparation of the Plaza areas for the build out.

The contractor is at this time finalizing the proposed schedule of work, which will outline different phases of the project. I will make sure to share it with you as it becomes available.

The Student Center is at this time working on signage that will hopefully help alleviate all issues pertaining to the changes in the traffic flow throughout the construction period.

If you have any questions regarding this issue, please contact Edina Bajraktarevic, Retail Commercial Services Manager at (415) 338-6441. Thank you.
